Dear Fellow Enthusiast........

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to become a Member of the
Victoria Cross Society.

The interest in the Victoria Cross continues to attract military historians, collectors and the general public alike. Ever since its inception in 1856, there has been a mystique that has surrounded this simple bronze cross that shows no sign of fading. Indeed, the reverse is true.

As the years pass, so the list of surviving recipients grows ever smaller. Fortunately, also diminishing are the opportunities for fresh medals to be awarded. It is important to keep alive the memory of this select band of exceptionally brave men, and it is with this view in mind that we invite you to join our Society.

The Society is pleased to support
this charity and has sourced a limited number of VC signed Commemorative Stamp Covers.
Sales from these covers are pledged to Help for Heroes

The Luckless Tribe – The Golden Age of British War Reporters By Brian Best

The Luckless Tribe – The Golden Age of British War Reporters
By Brian Best

From the Crimean War to the beginning of the First World War there was a new breed of men who followed armies on campaign in order to send eye-witness reports of battles to their newspapers.
This book covers these Golden Years of British war reporting, when the “Specials”, as the war correspondents were known, learned their trade the hard way. Sent to wars with little or no support and armed with no more than a bag of sovereigns, a notebook and a revolver, they had to use their wits and determination to bring news of conflict from some of the most inhospitable places in the world.
This book pays homage to these extraordinary pioneer reporters who earned the title – “Special”.
